Id say my only complaint with the Mtn Twin is the turn initiation is not that fast in tighter tree situations. Days:50+ It holds through a carve rather well though. Many boards personalities change acording to the conditions but the Jones Mountain Twin does not and thats hard to do in this hybrid world of snowboards. However, for Jimbo and Zobel the 158w is for sure the call. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. So what Im saying is it butters really well and the nose/tail with that rocker flex easier than you would think on snow than when you flex it in the shop. Its got a very smooth cruisingtype of personality that blends with a wide variety of riders and really defines the one board quiver ride well. Turn Initiation and Carving: Same kind of turn initiation as before but just a little more technical and expert oriented than before. Flex:Felt medium across the entire board and maybe bordering on the medium soft side of medium. But I'm also going to need something that can handle itself at decent speeds. Edge Hold:A step below magnetraction for sure. Its -20mm set back on the effective edgebut more like -38 mm (1.5) set back on the board. All of us who rode it found us passing everyone on long flat cat tracks. Its still pretty much the same ride but just pops a little better on an ollie and springs out of a turn a little better. Especially those that ride in harder snow. Hard to say but there is still a mellow disruption in the sidecut similar to the older model. Ride it like a mountain freestyle twin on groomers but then set it back in powder and get some pretty good directional float if you dont feel like riding switch. Carving: Very fun to carve and this mostly camber board really makes for good lay it out springy carving turns. I also felt fairly confident bombing down runs. Sizing: The 157 works for my specs. When on reference the YES Standard rides like a true twin on sidecut. The camber profile is more like the early YES boards 10 years ago when it didnt go past the inserts. Powder: The -20mm setback is now identical to the now discontinued YES Big City so it will be a little short of borderline excellent and do a great job in powder. When it comes to jumps you would think it wouldnt track well into them with this deeper sidecut between the bindings. The Jones Mountain Twin can skid turns too. The more we ride this board the more it feels like the edge hold is good but closer to the excellent side of good. Its not a specialist but for an all mountain board it can get you off. Its still not bad for a mostly camber mostly twin ride but its more for the expert rider use to camber than those use to easy floating hybrid shapes. I constantly spend my time trying to match the right waist width to the right boot size so Id like to see more waist widthsfor such a great board. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. For example, the 156 was still slow for me at size 9 boots but it could have been a lot slower. Its now just for size 10+ riders in the bigger sizes that prefer a narrower stance. On groomers it acts like a twin on edge but in powder this floats more like a directional board. Jimbo and Zobel, with their size 11s, were fine with the turn initiation though. Its got this kind of consistency in every condition from hard snow to powder that you can really fall in love with. Its now intermediate friendly where before it was mostly for advanced riders. You can easily spend a whole day lapping the pipe with the Jones. Its like there is a long extension of the edge at the middle of the board and the rest is almost un-noticable. We were impressed with its ability to flex when you need it on the tip/tail. 151: 8-9 Insoles: Sandsole Custom Insoles, Footprint Insole Technology Gameghangers Low Profile Its not an ice specialist but good in the conditions most find acceptable. Just some very minor tweaks. Turn Offs/Swipe Left: Needs a little more responsive binding.
